The brief

Ridgeline Leather make small runs of briefcases and messenger bags from vegetable-tanned hide. They wanted the shop page to show each bag clean and complete, and their journal to show the bags being carried, scuffs and all.

The light

In the studio a large softbox hung over the table, and a silver card under the lens pushed light into the pockets and buckles. On location we went to a quiet train platform on a grey morning, which is the best softbox there is, and shot from waist height so the bag stayed the subject.

The result

Twenty-four studio stills, twelve location frames and a set of close crops of the stitching. The platform pictures are now the first thing on their homepage.
